Regulatory Frameworks
ISO 31000:2018 provides guidelines on managing risk faced by organizations. The application of these guidelines can be customized to any organization and its context. It is not industry or sector specific and can be applied to any activity, including decision-making at all levels.
IRIS works with a variety of NIST Guidance. Some of the most common requirements include support for the Risk Management Framework (RMF) (NIST SP 800-37 revision 2) and the Cyber Security Principles (NIST SP 800-53 revision 4).
IRIS software embeds principles from the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBoK), including the PMI’s Standard for Risk Management. This standard focuses on the “what” of risk management, including core principles, fundamentals and life cycle.
The ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards helps organizations secure information assets such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or trusted 3rd party information. ISO/IEC 27001 is the best-known standard in the family providing requirements for an information security management system (ISMS) but there are more than a dozen standards in the 27000 family.
The Office of Management and Budget update to Circular A-123 introduces a government-wide risk management program and updates the internal controls program to better align with recent changes made by the Government Accountability Office. The OMB Circular A-123 outlines a flexible framework for how each agency, bureau and component can manage risk.
The HM Treasury Management of Risk (M_o_R) principles were first released in 2004 and were a foundational document for many of the other risk management standards. The Orange Book was updated in 2019 to provide additional guidance on governance and risk culture.
